Montaigne and Tkay Maidza

Friends, family, and those who have played a part in our journey over the past two decades joined us at Bird in Hand this weekend to celebrate our 20th anniversary.

Guests were greeted at the winery with a glass of 2010 Nest Egg Joy sparkling wine to the sounds of indigenous artist Robert Wuldi. Moving into our barrel hall for dinner, they were treated to a spine-tingling live rendition of ‘Chandelier’ from rising Australian star Montaigne, inspiring a standing ovation.

Our chef de cuisine, Carlos Astudillo and his team curated a sumptuous feast including lobster, longhorn beef and twice cooked duck, paired with some of the finest wines from our portfolio. Following dinner and speeches from founder Andrew Nugent and chief winemaker Kym Milne MW, the party ramped up a notch with singer and rapper Tkay Maidza taking to the stage for a set, surprising guests with a unique collaboration with Montaigne. The celebrations continued into the night with sparkling wine infused-cocktails and dancing to hits from DJ Jake Stone.

To mark the occasion, a stunning new sculpture was unveiled from Australian artist Lisa Roet. This striking fibreglass monkey head will be a permanent fixture amongst Bird in Hand’s art collection.

The 20th anniversary of Bird in Hand was also an opportunity to release our 2007 Lalla Victoria sparkling wine, part of our highest tier, the Tribute Series. Only the second vintage of this wine to ever be released, it uses our most exceptional pinot noir grapes and is aged on lees for ten years. Only 336 bottles have been produced.

Bird in Hand has come a long way since Andrew Nugent and his father happened upon this former dairy in the Adelaide Hills. We strive to continue our success, and to remain at the pinnacle of wine, food, artistic experience, music and design for decades to come.
