The Luxury of Synergy
At Bird in Hand, we talk a lot about wine as a catalyst. It has an expressive spirit about it that enhances the power of creative pursuits. Those who love wine often love art, and music, and design and travel. Everything inspiring, really. For us, wine is part of a broader experience of so many things that bring joy.
That’s why we like to reach out to creators to collaborate on projects beyond the world of wine. We regularly join forces with artists, designers, event planners and culture makers in Australia and internationally to dream up unique products and experiences.

Produced in collaboration with endearingly passionate Milan-born cook, Silvia Colloca, Bird in Hand's Italian range shapes the wild pleasures of these ancient varietals through distinctive modern Australian winemaking techniques. The unique bottle design is the artistic endeavour of renowned global fashion designer Dion Lee.

Enhancing the tabletop, be it with a bottle of shiraz or a set of fine napkins, is endlessly exciting, so we collaborated with the textile-minded fashion duo Easton Pearson to create a special collection of printed table linens.
Bird in Hand Italian Range
Bird in Hand launched a new collaboration for the Italian Range on November 3, 2016. Acclaimed fashion designer Dion Lee has designed the bottle and Television personality and author Silvia Colloca also collaborated on the suite of wines, which were produced in the Adelaide Hills and include a nero d'avola, montepulciano, pinot grigio and arneis.
Andrew Nugent, Founder and Director of BIRD in HAND: “We knew this was the right fit for BIRD in HAND from the start. Dion Lee has a design aesthetic in line with our brand and Silvia Colloca is ambitious, passionate about food, wine and travel and are the perfect collaborators.” BIRD in HAND was immediately attracted to Dion's creative and artistic design background and was impressed with Silvia's Italian culinary prowess.
Lee jumped at the chance to work with the Bird in Hand team on the direction of the bottle designs, which make use of negative space and striking horizontal stripes on clear glass - burgundy for the red varieties and a cool, clean white for the whites. "I wanted to keep the glass simple and clear," says Lee, in order for the true colour of the wine to shine through. "So often you see green glass used for red wines, so you never know what the wine looks like until you pour it. With Bird in Hand I wanted to make sure it came to the fore."
Bird in Hand together with Dion Lee and Silvia Colloca released the newly designed Italian Range at the beautiful Olsen Irwin Gallery in Sydney on Nov 3, 2016.
