Believe it or not, wine isn’t everything. But we think it’s an essential ingredient, a universal delight that easily finds its place in so many other wonderful aspects of our lives.

Of course, good food goes well with good wine. We’ve got that covered. But we’re also into art, music, design, philanthropy and community. Friendship and fun times. That’s why we frequently commission beautiful works of art, collaborate with designers on luxury accessories collections, hold live concerts on our grounds and throw parties around the world.

Our holistic approach to enjoyment becomes quite apparent if you visit us here at Bird in Hand. We also like to think our multi-dimensional character seeps into our wine, so you can taste it in every glass, wherever you happen to be.

Dining at The Gallery

An extension of the Bird in Hand winemaking philosophy, The Gallery is the culmination of everything Bird in Hand stands for: food, art, design, friendship, celebration. And, oh yes, wine. Featuring ingredients from local growers and our own kitchen garden, our onsite farm-to-table restaurant offers a seasonal menu of standout dishes in an elegant yet relaxed environment.

The Gallery is open for lunch every day. Chef de Cuisine Carlos Astudillo offers two dining experiences for lunch :

Joy Flight, $130
An exciting seasonal culinary journey that unfolds to reveal an elite progression of ingredients, flavours and textures. 

 Allow three hours. The menu changes according to sourcing of seasonal ingredients.

Our share-style menu, featuring fresh, natural and local produce, constantly evolving to reflect the changing landscape of the Adelaide Hills.

Twilight Fridays, winter 2017

On 18th August, The Gallery will be open for dinner. Chef de Cuisine Carlos Astudillo will present a two or three course menu of seasonal dishes, with accompanying wines if desired.

Winter Reds 'Birds in The Gallery'

On Saturday 29th July. as part of the Adelaide Hills Winter Reds festival, chef de Cuisine Carlos Astudillo is presenting the ultimate 'bird' tasting menu. Six courses, paired with complementing wines. $165pp.

Directions to Bird in Hand

From Adelaide or Melbourne (the South Eastern Freeway), take the exit to Hahndorf and follow the signs to Woodside along the Onkaparinga Valley Tourist Drive until Riverview Road. Turn right and follow Riverview Road (it becomes Pfeiffer Road) as it bends around and crosses the Nairne-Woodside Road. The entrance to Bird in Hand is from Pfeiffer Road. Simply follow the signs that lead to the famous Bird in Hand silos.

Cellar Door

Drinking wine here is different than in other places. The Cellar Door gives our visitors a kind of front row seat to our winemaking works, complete with tutored tastings and wines you can’t drink anywhere else, including late releases and carefully cellared museum selections. Here, you can wander through the original barrel hall, relax in the courtyard overlooking the vines, taste our olive oil, or enjoy bites of cheese and antipasti. Be inspired by our carefully curated artwork, or peruse our range of luxury collection items, which is available for sale here.

The Cellar Door is open daily:
Monday to Friday: 10am — 5pm
Weekends & Public Holidays: 11am — 5pm
Closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Charcuterie and Cheese boards to share are available between 12pm-4pm everyday. No reserved seating is available, Enjoy wine and food from Cellar door on the lawns and terrace.

Cellar Door Tastings 

We would like to give an extraordinary tasting experience and a high level of service to all our guests, hence we encourage patrons to make bookings before you arrive at Bird in Hand. As we get extremely busy on weekends, you may be turned away if we are at capacity.

Group bookings are essential for 8 or more people, 11am - 3pm onlyNo BYO food or drinks. We encourage responsible service of alcohol.

Nest Egg Tastings

Taste a selection of iconic wines in a reserved and private area, with our astute staff delivering the finer nuances of our beautifully crafted creations. Enhance your tasting experience further with prearranged platters and canapés created by Chef de Cuisine Carlos Astudillo.

As the name suggests, The Gallery showcases our collection of art, curated and commissioned especially for the space. World famous artists come together with local gallery owners to dress the walls, floors and ceiling with pieces chosen to provide an inspired dining experience.

Music is good. Live music is even better. Better still, live music and good wine. It’s the best combination of things. That’s why we set up an outdoor stage and hold concerts on our grounds, inviting some of Australia’s best loved musicians to perform. It’s one of the more special things that happens at Bird in Hand.
